FLORENCE COUNTY, SC – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident involving a log truck Thursday morning that closed part of Francis Marion Road.

Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins, spokesman for the SCHP, said the accident occurred along Francis Marion Road near Tabernacle Road in Florence County around 10:45 a.m.

Two people were killed when the log truck they were traveling in on Francis Marion Road went off the left side of the roadway and hit a dirt embankment. The collision caused logs from the truck to be ejected from the truck, which killed the two occupants.

Florence County Coroner Bubba Matthews has identified the driver of the truck as 37-year-old Kevin Mitchell of McClellanville. Matthews also identified the passenger as Hulgh L. Boykin, 24, also of McClellanville.

Collins said Francis Marion Road has reopened after the South Carolina Highway Patrol's Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team investigated the accident.
