Tanker truck accident in Parsippany, NJ causing phone problems at Morris offices

MORRIS TWP. — Some Morris County offices at the West Hanover Avenue Complex in Morris Township are experiencing significant communication problems because of a Verizon outage caused by the tanker truck accident earlier this morning in Parsippany.

An accident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. in the area of Meadowbluff and Old Dover roads, involving an overturned tanker truck. Officials say the outages will last until Friday night.

The county offices most impacted are the Office of Temporary Assistance and Morris View Healthcare Center. There are partial outages at the Division on Aging, Disabilities and Veterans, however, the Youth Shelter and Juvenile Detention Center have full telephone access.

As a result, while the Morris County Office of Temporary Assistance on West Hanover Avenue is able to receive new applications, it will be unable to process them until next week, county officials said.

Because of the outage, the office is also not able to provide Electronic Benefits Transfer cards to access benefits. However, clients in an emergency or crisis situation can come in to either the Hanover Avenue or Dover offices to be seen by a social worker, and other emergency assistance such as food or gift cards will be provided based on need.

Regular telephone service is also disabled at Morris View Healthcare Center. While phone service may be out, the facility is fully functional and is equipped with two-way radio communication, cell phones and email communication, ensuring that all residents are safe and families can communicate as needed.

The county has established emergency cellular service for anyone trying to reach the Office of Temporary Assistance or Morris View Healthcare Center.
