Fire Truck Accident in Texas

A traffic accident involving a fire truck responding to a fire injured one firefighter and two others in southeast Fort Worth Sunday afternoon.

The fire engine was responding to a structure fire when it struck a pickup at the intersection of Miller Avenue and Wilbarger Street at 2:53 p.m., according to a Fort Worth Fire Department news release.

The fire truck had its emergency lights and siren on and was blowing its air horn as it traveled east on Wilbarger and slowed down to see if the intersection was cleared of traffic before it crossed into the intersection, Fire Department spokesman Ricardo Neaves said.

The driver of the southbound pickup, apparently unaware that other vehicles had stopped to yield to the fire truck, accelerated through the intersection, causing the vehicles to collide, Neaves said.

Both occupants in the pickup were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, the release stated. The fire truck was carrying a crew of four firefighters, one of whom was taken to a local hospital with a head injury, the release stated.
