A car collided with a cement truck in northeast D.C. Tuesday afternoon, making a mess of traffic in the area as rush hour approached.

The northbound car apparently collided with the truck before 2 p.m. in the area of North Capitol Street south of Harewood Road, according to D.C. Fire and EMS. The car was split in half.

The driver of the car, who was trapped inside, had to be rescued by D.C. Fire and EMS and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

A car seat visible inside the car caused concern that a child may have been inside, but no child was found. D.C. Fire and EMS used a heat-seeking camera and found no other victims.

D.C. Fire and EMS used a heavy wrecker to lift the cement truck.
