CINCINNATI -- A truck accident on Interstate 75 is backing up traffic in the northbound lanes near Mitchell Avenue.

The accident happened when a trailer somehow collapsed in the high-speed lane.

Police said they hoped to not close more than one lane to avoid a mess similar to last week's accident, when a truck fire closed all three lanes, but closed a second lane just before 4 p.m., leaving two open. A third lane was closed shortly after 4 p.m.

The truck was removed around 6:30 p.m. but delays persisted.

GREENE COUNTY— The driver of a dump truck was cited in connection with an accident that blocked U.S. 42 near Wilberforce University for more than two hours Monday.

The accident occurred at 12:10 p.m., Lt. Marty Fellure of the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Xenia Post said. No injuries were reported.

Troopers believe the dump truck was pulling a trailer southwest on U.S. 42 when the driver lost control, went left of center and struck a utility truck that was heading northeast on U.S. 42, Fellure said. The utility truck went off the right side of the road into a field while the dump truck overturned on U.S. 42 and blocked the road, which had to be shut down for over two hours.

The driver of the dump truck was cited for assured clear distance.

The State Highway Patrol says mechanical failure is not the reason a semi-truck plowed into the back of a car carrying Marine recruits Wednesday, killing three of them.

Truck driver Donald Williams of Youngstown gave a statement after the accident, but declined to be interviewed by a trooper Thursday.

Lieutenant Joe Dragovich of the State Patrol's Warren Post says they inspected the truck, and found no mechanical issues.

Authorities are still looking into whether Williams may have been texting or talking on a cell phone before the accident.

Meanwhile, funeral services for the victims killed in the crash will all take place next week.

Garbage Truck Accident On I-275 in Ohio

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP -- A ramp to Colerain Avenue from Interstate 275 has reopened after a garbage truck crash on Thursday afternoon forced it to close.

The Rumpke truck flipped onto its side on the ramp from eastbound I-275 just before 2 p.m.

Deputies said the driver, Maurice Craig, 50, failed to maintain control of the truck and overcorrected, causing the truck to overturn and spill garbage on the roadway. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Craig was taken to Mercy Fairfield Hospital for examination, but did not appear to be seriously injured. He was cited for failure to maintain reasonable control, which is a misdemeanor.

Rumpke workers responded to the ramp to clean up the trash. The ramp reopened at about 4:45 p.m.
