A 13-year-old girl was killed, and another critically injured, in a two-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon, according to state police.

The accident occurred at about 4:20 p.m. on state Route 410, where it intersects with county Route 19, police said.

A Lowe’s delivery truck, operated by Joshua Girard, of Adams, was heading north on Route 19 and failed to see a stop sign at the intersection with Route 410, police said.

The truck entered the intersection and struck a westbound minivan operated by Scott Benson, police said.

Girard’s vehicle continued north after the collision, striking a telephone pole and a large tree.

A passenger in the van, Mykala Benson, 13, was killed. Another passenger, Kendra Kehoe, 13, was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center with critical injuries, police said.

A passenger in the Lowe’s truck, Frank Solivan, and the driver Girard, were both taken to Carthage Hospital with minor injuries, police said.

It could not immediately be learned where either of the Bensons, Kehoe or Solivan are from.

The investigation is continuing.
