Two semi truck drivers killed in a chain-reaction collision on the 40 Freeway early this morning have been identified.

The 1:20 a.m. collision happened on the 40 near the Fenner rest area, about 30 miles west of Needles, and included eight semi trucks. A trucker overturned his big rig in the darkness and blocked the lanes, stopping traffic.

Another semi truck driver who was unable to stop in time crashed into another truck at 2:35 a.m. roughly a mile from the first scene. That big rig was pushed forward into another semi truck, which smashed into the back of a fourth big rig.

Sergio German Preciado, 35, of Hinkley, died in that collision. He was behind the wheel of the semi truck that was unable to stop and started the chain-reaction crashes.

The backup from that accident triggered another crash at 3:50 a.m. involving three more semi trucks. Killed in that collision was David Mark Flores, 61, of Victorville.
